I’m sorry but I needed some time.

I went away for a week to clear my mind, be stress free and it worked.
Until I got back to school.

I have to admit that over the last few weeks I have put on a few pounds (minus the water retention from the copious amounts of flying that I’ve done) and I realised that while trying to figure out what I’m doing for school I totally forgot to keep myself in check. While I was still eating healthy, my runs and work outs dwindled and my Full House marathons increased. I have a race Saturday and my marathon is in a few weeks. I’m not expecting any goals, I just want to go out and run because I enjoy it. I’m not worried about those few pounds because I know they will be gone before I know it.

We all need to realise that we can get wrapped up in life at times and it’s okay. As long as we remember to get back on track and continue to where we’re headed, even if we aren’t sure of where that is.

For dinner tonight I had a broiled T-Bone steak medium rare with steamed veggies and rice. I’m trying to empty my freezer so many of my meals will be veggies, rice/pasta and either steak/pork/chicken (and I’m okay with that).

ps. if you ever need someone to talk to, I’m here, okay?

Sorry I have posted any of my own posts recently.

I am bombarded with school work, had Nationals / Midterm break last week, and now I’m stuck in an airport.

I have some new plans for the blog, which I have been working on in my spare time.

Hope you’re all still smiling since that is the first step to being healthy.

Food; absolutely crucial. The grocery store.

Hey everyone! I’m going to be posting my workouts from the past few days and today once I get home from skating/training/floor hockey. I’ve been so swamped with lectures, labs, revising, and doing papers that I haven’t really posted my results. I was also asked to post a picture of my quads. When I get a chance, I will!

I made a discovery today though. I have next to no food. I haven’t done groceries in three weeks (aside from a week ago when we came back from Regionals and I picked up some basics). I have no milk, eggs, fresh fruit or vegetables, cheese, yogurt, etc. Yet even though I haven’t gone shopping, I’ve still managed to eat healthy with all (frozen) fruit smoothies, stirfry, chicken, steak, pork (I have a lot of frozen meat), rice, simple pastas.

Here is an example of my grocery list.

  • milk
  • eggs
  • yogurt
  • bread
  • spinach & romaine
  • carrots, celery, cucumber, peppers, onion, tomatoes, potatoes (white, red, sweet), etc.
  • apples, pears, bananas, grapefruit, oranges, pineapple, lemons, berries, dragonfruit, kiwi, etc
  • greek yogurt
  • cheddar cheese, laughing cow/cream cheese, cottage cheese
  • shaved turkey breast, ground beef/turkey, chicken breasts, pork chops, steak

I try my absolute hardest to keep everything I eat fresh, and I like to make everything from scratch. There are next to no pre-made foods in my pantry/freezer/fridge. I stick to the produce aisles and don’t stuck wandering in the “hell zone”.

But what I’d like to know is, what are your essentials on your grocery list?

We’re Off To Nationals!

We came third and will be heading to Windsor in 3 weeks to compete against 10 of the other top Open Synchro teams in the country. I’m so excited to be going home for a few days while I’m there!

Anyways, look forward to a blog revamp as I finally have my fully paid version of photoshop and can get back to all of my editing and photography wonders!

Fool Haul:

Look at the first picture. Delicious, healthy, magical foods.
Romaine lettuce, mixed greens, celery, carrots, green and red peppers, red and spanish onions, plum tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, avocados, red and golden potatoes, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, dragonfruit, starfruit, granny smith apples, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, bananas, pineapple, cantaloupe, watermelon, pears, red grapes, grapefruit, oranges, lean ground beef, italian sausages, asiago cheese, old cheddar cheese, oven roasted chicken, sundried tomato and basil turkey, raisin bread, Silver Hills Bakery BIG 16 bread, 1% milk, almond milk, brown eggs, tortillas, pitas, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and so much more.

I love grocery shopping because I can feed myself without punishment.

Dinner was Italian Sausages with green & red pepper, spanish onion, olive oil and a little bit of honey. It was delicious and filling and I only used 2 sausages.

For dessert, blackberries, blueberries, red grapes, and strawberries topped with about 1/4cup of greek yogurt and pecans.

What are your favourite things about grocery shopping?

This week in a wrap up.

Monday - extensive weight training
Tuesday - hill sprints, bodyrock
Wednesday - 6k run, bodyrock, Practice
Thursday - 30min tempo, bodyrock
Friday - rest…. went for a walk
Saturday (TODAY!) - long run, bodyrock

This week has been pretty hectic as I am getting ready to head back to Alberta for four more months of Year 1 to go by. In a week I’ll be in Calgary for the Rose Bowl for our Synchro competition. I’m definitely not ready seeing as I haven’t been able to practice with my team for 3 weeks, but oh well, we always pull through in the end. I’m not sure if I want to keep doing Synchro next year. It all depends if we end up medaling at Nationals in February (where I get to come back home for a few days). It also depends if we move up in the levels and if I’m working and how my course load is etc. I’ll still skate but I’m not to think that far ahead, my Mum’s getting a little fussed with my plans when I haven’t even finished first year lol.

How was everyone’s week?

Sometimes in the middle of things, we need to take a breather and just relax.
After three months of not being able to have a proper stress relief and taking 45 minutes to fix the tub, I finally got to have a bubble bath! Bath & Body Works made an amazing show tonight with Vanilla Bean Noel bubble bath, Twisted Peppermint and Gingerbread candles and just a spritz of my scent; Secret Wonderland.
I am now relaxed and finally ready to tackle the rest of my assignments and study for my finals coming up!

There are two steps to becoming health; one being smile. Smiling is a mental change not everybody realizes. Smiling keeps you going even when days are tough, to help you realize that you are full of potential. Two being making a physical change by exercising and eating right (with still being able to indulge). Healthy living, not just food and exercise but being happy.
